the actual gun owner says--my county has the third highest incidence of gang crime in NC (behind Wake and Meck); my former next door neighbor was killed as part of a gang initiation when the perp shot him 3 times in the stomach and stole his car, (happened at 4:00 pm on a Saturday in the driveway adjacent to my house); there have been 11 murders in my town in the last 9 months--we are 8 times above the national average; I have had a written death threat directed at me (for which I've obtained a 50(c) restraining order); when I "moved" as some of you will suggest I should do--guess what?--another murder happened in the "country club" area 400 yards from my house--when a guy got bludgeoned to death on New Year's eve with a 2X4 to the face; and last but not least--I live in the county where the motorist crossed the double yellow line and intentionally put 6 of Scott Harkey's Subaru Montgomery cycling team members in intensive care (all lived)--well, I talked to Scott and his wife and they SAW the guy's eyes as he went across the double yellow line and purposefully ran into them. Guess what, the DA didn't prosecute him b/c he "lost control of the car when he looked down while texting"--before it was illegal in NC.
me again--forgot to tell you my former office mgr was kidnapped at gun point outside our office and driven around my town to 3 teller machines while she was required to get out $600.00. She got away by talking the perp out of killing her as he drove her to the county dump to shoot her. Well, on my street (after I moved away from the gang killing --but before moving to the country club "safe environment," some 300 yards away from my house, again on a "nice street", a bank robber from GA "holed up" with a local college coed and killed her in front of her 2 year old. And I almost forgot about this one--after moving to the "country club," about 2 iron shots across out back yard, a dentist was killed when he was trading "sex for narcotics" and the boyfriend of his "main squeeze" killed him by tying him up with electrical cords "splayed open" and strangled him. Interestingly, I walk my dog by that house every night.
as a further hint--my town is under 30 k in population and I never experienced any proximate violence while living in Atlanta, Raleigh or Charlotte.
I have often said I do not carry a gun while riding my bike because I would be in prison for using it on a motorist. I guess this example is another galaxy altogether.
from the gun owner. You are correct, I do live in Salisbury. I have a Beretta Tomcat but the slide is stuck open. Taking to the gun shop. My Sig Sauer 9mm is too big to carry. Right now it's either the S & W Airweight 38 or my Springfield SD 40 Subcompact. I thought the snubnose would work best for now. Peace.
Something is seriously wrong with a society that produces such violent crime.
I think the USA (in certain areas at least) is becoming more and more like a third world country where violence prevails over law and order. I think things will continue to get worse as the what's left of the economy unwinds. 9% unemployment is the new norm. Interest rates at an all time low but the housing market remains in the crapper. At lot of people have lost hope and given up on the "American Dream."
Cyclists represent freedom and enjoyment of life and people resent that! It reminds them how much their own lives suck. I see it in their faces every day.
Glad to live in NY State! We've got a lower crime rate, plenty of extra room, and now gay marriage is legal to boot. Abundant rando options. Come on up! Leave the gun behind, though.
